Benamocarra has a population
of 3.000 inhabitants is very well connected with the rest of
the towns of La Axarquía.
Its appearance is the same as that of the other towns in the
administrative district, with an abundance of whitewashed facades
and narrow and steep alleys.
The main visit here is the architectural reference
is the Parish Church of Santa Ana, hailing from the Sixteenth
Century, and amongst its main festivities is the one that takes
place on the third weekend in October, in honour of “El
Santísimo Cristo de la Salud”. Furthermore, it
is worth noting “La Romería de San Isidro”,
celebrated on the 15th May, and the Feast of La Candelaria,
on the 7th and 8th of September.
To know its gastronomy, you must taste “Las
Coles Moreá”, apart from the chickpea stews with
haricot beans and Swiss chard, the cold garlic and almond soup,
“la sopa de maimones” and the cold vegetable soup
fried with flour and vinegar.
