This peaceful and hospitable town has a population
of about 3.000 inhabitants and is known as the capital of Los
Montes de Málaga.
The Neolithic Cultures whose remains can be found here in “La
Cueva de las Pulseras”, the Pre- roman and Roman; those
of Umar B. Hafsun; French troops; and, lastly, the discoverers
of the tourist trade potential of La Costa del Sol.
For the visitors there are two main references:
the Church of “Ntra. Sra. De la Asunción”,
from the Sixteenth Century; and the Shrine, built in the Seventeenth
Century.
Festivities of interest are: The August Fair,
the feast of “El Mosto y la Chacina” and its local
festivities, during the first week in February, in honour of
its Patron Saint, “La Virgen de la Candelaria”.
The gastronomy here is rich and varied, highlighting
some of its dishes: “el plato de los Montes”, snails,
“el gazpacho de tres ramales”, “roscos caseros”
and “milhojas”, and the local must and wines.
