Igualeja is on the road which
connects La Costa del Sol with Ronda, with a population of about
1.000 inhabitants, has a labyrinthine, urban setting, with winding
streets and low- lying houses.
Igualeja is surrounded by an environment on which there is an
abundance of chestnut trees and which is so uneven that it hardly
leaves any possibilities for any other agricultural use.
Concerning to the history of this place, there
are mentions of the Arabs as the first to settle in the town,
by then belonging to the Cora of Takuranda. Later on it came
under the jurisdiction of Ronda as the feudal estate of the
Infante Don Juan.
Here we can visit the Church of Santa Rosa de
Lima, built on a mosque during the Sixteenth century.
The festivity of the Holy Week is worth reviewing
in Igualeja, especially the Corpus procession. Then “Las
Fiestas Grandes” take place on the 23rd of August, in
honour of Santa Rosa de Lima, and on the 12th of March, in honour
of San Gregorio.
The most appreciated dishes of its gastronomy
are “El Salmorejo”, “las gachas”, “las
migas” and “el gazpacho”.
