Located on one of the summits
of Sierra Bermeja, just deep in the administrative district
of La Serranía de Ronda, this is one of the most visited
towns in the whole area.
It has been a compulsory transit area to get from the towns
settled on the south of Ronda to the coast.
Now it has a population of about 500 inhabitants and its town
setting responds to the characteristic Muslim layout, with winding,
narrow streets, extremely irregular whilst its natural environment
is made up of and is maintained in an excellent state of conservation.
The most significant monument in Pujerra is the Church of El
Espíritu Santo, built in the Sixteenth Century.
The most important festivities here are in honour
of San Antonio de Padua, and are celebrated during June. Another
one is the one that takes place on the 3rd of November, in honour
of La Virgen de Fátima.
One of its most outstanding dishes are “la
olla”, “la pinchitada”, “el mosto”
and “la postura”.
