Located between el Rincón de la Victoria and Nerja, Torre del Mar is essentially a modern beach resort with a few old buildings now growing thanks to the tourism. Until now the town has been relatively neglected by foreign buyers but over the last few years the interest in the area has risen sharply, particularly from those looking for cheaper property but within a more Spanish environment. And development is very intense in the north-east of the town, particularly the apartments and townhouses.

It has a pleasant seafront promenade and offers good services and amenities including the Axarquía hospital.

Torre del Mar is a very busy town with a mainly Spanish feel to it.

The beaches are almost coarse grey sand and not very well-maintained out of season as the rest of the Malacitan coast.
